February's Blog with Xavier Evans

Hello everyone it’s Xavier Evans, your Vice President of Community Service! Our winter break is almost in full effect which means there should be some time on the horizons. Being that February is the season of love, there is one project that comes to mind which could require a little bit of planning! You could participate in this year’s State Project which is donating items to children and teens that are sick in the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital located in Syracuse, NY. For this project, you can donate anything from hand-made greeting cards to coloring books to  video games! Be sure to check the greeting card guidelines and wish list for the State Project to help guide you! If you have any questions about the State Project, be sure to either contact myself at xevans11@yahoo.com or go to New York State’s FCCLA web page under programs
in the Advisors tab for more information! One great way to bring this project back to your
individual schools and communities could be having your chapter challenge each grade for a prize to see who can donate the most items; you could even ask your principal or
superintendent to relate it back to your school by giving the grade with the most donations spirit points, if applicable. This project is a great way to learn more about our community and get involved. Even though this project may seem to be on a small scale, you will make someone’s day that lives right in your backyard by donating items, such as video games, that they will have a lot of fun with! If you do decide to participate in this project, don’t forget to bring all of the items your chapter donated to the State Conference in March along with a completed State Project form which is found on the website under  programs in the advisors tab! We’d love to hear about what you come up with! Please be sure to leave a comment under this post so we can hear about all of the great things you’re doing in the community!

Talk to you very soon,
Xavier Evans
Vice President of Community Service
