Hello! My name is Laura Roe and I am the 2016-2017 New York State President. I cannot believe I was able to spend a week in San Diego California! This week has been pretty incredible! During my time in sunny San Diego, I had the opportunity to have some really great experiences and met some great people. I was required to attend two rehearsals which just included the State Presidents, one was to practice presenting our state flag to the entire National Delegation, the second was to practice receiving an award for increased membership which I am proud of. During the rehearsals I was able to converse and exchange business cards with a few State Presidents. Then on Sunday I got to attend a meeting that also just involved State Presidents. Also on Sunday and Wednesday my council and I went to a state officer training which included other councils from across the United States. Those meetings were very fun because we were able to talk to other councils and work with them. We even learned and created a FCCLA Slogan. I also attended a few workshops but I’ll just talk about my favorite. My favorite workshop was run by a group named Project Elevate. The group's main message was to get students to stop bullying and that bullying needs to sop. The group got the students interested and motivated by putting on dance performances, telling personal stories and connecting with the students on their level. They were AMAZING and I would like to see them again. During the opening session there was an incredible keynote speaker named Josh Shipp. Josh told his story and got the students involved in a serious and humorous way. The most interesting meeting I attended was the Business Meeting because there was a heated debate on one of the new bylaw change, the delegation was very intrigued and mind-blown. On Wednesday after the business session our delegation went to the San Diego Zoo, which was awesome!! On Thursday there was STAR Event recognition. During the recognition I was able to be part of the ceremony by helping the students file off the stage and direct them where to go. San Diego was an amazing that gave me memories that will last a lifetime.
